Elderly care in Fujairah continues to improve

DUBAI // Improvements to elderly care are continuing In Fujairah with more home visits helping with preventative and rehabilitation services.

An existing programme run by Dubai Health Authority has now been expanded to include new areas and provide a geriatric service for more patients who are unable to visit hospital.

The home care team is made up of five doctors, seven nurses, six physiotherapists, one dietitian, two social workers and three administrative staff.

During a recent three day visit, specialists visited 57 patients, 21 of whom were new cases.

Director-General of the DHA, Engineer Essa Al Maidoor, said: “The DHA pays significant emphasis to its geriatric services and home-care is a fundamental part of that.

“We also ensure all aspects such as environmental factors are taken into consideration so that the elderly patient’s home is modified to make it safe for the patient and to improve their quality of life.”

The home care service includes a medical, psychosocial ,environmental and functional assessment, so elderly patients can remain at home during their treatment where possible.
