The UAE reported 2,613 new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday, taking the overall tally of infections to 410,849.

There were 1,587 new recoveries, raising the number of patients who have beaten the virus to 392,792.

A further 234,763 tests were carried out over the preceding 24 hours. More than 32 million tests have been done since the first case was detected on January 29, 2020.

The number of active cases increased to 16,735, as new cases exceeded recoveries for a 10th consecutive day. Active cases had dropped to 5,421 on February 25, after a spike of 27,054 on January 30.

Health officials reported 12 deaths on Sunday, pushing the number of fatalities to 1,322.

The highest number of deaths in one month were recorded in February with 375 patients dying of Covid-related complications. This was more than double the previous record month, which was 173 deaths in January.

Since then, authorities have intensified safety measures and increased inspections to ensure compliance across the country.

The nationwide vaccine drive is also under way with almost 6.3 million doses administered to date, after another 7,149 were administered in the past 24 hours. This is the equivalent of 63.43 doses per 100 people, placing the UAE third, after Israel and Seychelles, globally.
