The UAE reported 1,856 new cases of Covid-19 on Friday, the country’s highest daily number of infections since the beginning of the outbreak. Friday’s cases topped Thursday’s infections of 1,730 and Wednesday’s 1,723. So far, 209,678 positive cases have been reported in the UAE. Two patients died in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 671. A further 1,577 patients were given the all-clear as the recovery tally climbed to 186,019. The latest infections were detected after 145,163 tests were carried out. There are 22,988 active cases in the country. The UAE has conducted more than 21 million tests so far. Thousands of revellers across the UAE welcomed the New Year in style on Thursday, enjoying spectacular fireworks displays at a social distance. Authorities across the country urged people to celebrate safely and help to limit the spread of the virus.
