The UAE reported 1,292 cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, raising the tally of infections to 154,101.

Another 890 patients were cleared of the virus, taking the total number of recoveries to 145,537.

Authorities said four patients died. The country has recorded 542 deaths so far.

Health officials said 116,396 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours.

There are now 8,022 active cases in the UAE, which has carried out more than 15.2 million tests since the outbreak began as part of a mass-screening strategy to limit the spread of the virus.

On Tuesday, health officials urged the public to abide by Covid-19 safety measures as a busy holiday season approaches.

The pandemic will require residents to put safety first when the country marks the National Day on December 2.

Officials also called for caution during Christmas and New Year holidays.

Key guidelines were set for holiday celebrations, including a cap on gatherings for firework displays, the cancellation of workplace parties and the need for official approval for hosting music concerts and other events.

The exchange of gifts and food will be prohibited during the coming festivities.

Globally, more than 55.5 million Covid-19 cases have been recorded, while the global death toll exceeded 1.3 million. About 35.7 million patients have recovered.
