The UAE reported 1,283 new cases of Covid-19 and three further deaths on Friday.

The government said 838 patients recovered and that 145,103 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours.

The figures bring the total number of cases since the outbreak began to 165,250 and the death toll to 567.

In total, 152,708 people to be diagnosed with Covid-19 have been given the all-clear.

The UAE typically tests more than 100,000 people per day in one of the largest operations of its kind. Teachers, taxi drivers, retail workers and emergency services personnel are among the many who are tested every week or two to ensure they are clear of the virus.

More than 16 million tests have been conducted nationwide since the outbreak began.
