The UAE recorded 1,871 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, as recoveries exceeded infections for the ninth day running.

The latest daily figures brought the country's overall tally to 442,226.

Another 2,144 people overcame the virus, as the recovery total climbed to 424,480.

The death toll now stands at 1,445, after a further seven fatalities were confirmed during the 24-hour reporting period.

The number of active cases in the Emirates fell to 15,941.

New Covid-19 infections remained below 2,000 for the second consecutive day –  continuing an encouraging trend of declining numbers.

Daily positive tests had hovered above 3,000 for much of January and February.

But infections have exceeded 3,000 only once in March – dropping below 2,000 four times in the past nine days.

Monday's new cases  are a slight increase on the 1,717 infections reported on Sunday, which was the lowest tally since January 3.

An additional 185,531 tests were conducted.

More than 35.5 million tests have been carried out since the outbreak began.

“Join in with a group like Cycle Safe Dubai or TrainYAS, where you’ll meet like-minded people and always have support on hand.”

Stewart Howison, co-founder of Cycle Safe Dubai and owner of Revolution Cycles

“When you sweat a lot, you lose a lot of salt and other electrolytes from your body. If your electrolytes drop enough, you will be at risk of cramping. To prevent salt deficiency, simply add an electrolyte mix to your water.”

Cornelia Gloor, head of RAK Hospital’s Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Centre

“Don’t make the mistake of thinking you can ride as fast or as far during the summer as you do in cooler weather. The heat will make you expend more energy to maintain a speed that might normally be comfortable, so pace yourself when riding during the hotter parts of the day.”

Chandrashekar Nandi, physiotherapist at Burjeel Hospital in Dubai
