The UAE recorded 1,490 new Covid-19 cases on Friday as the figure remained below 1,500 for the eighth day running.

The latest infections brought the country's tally since the start of the pandemic last year to 552,920.

Another 1,451 patients overcame the virus as the number of recoveries climbed to 532,910.

The death toll stands at 1,644 following two fatalities during the 24-hour reporting period.

There are 18,366 active cases in the Emirates.

An additional 241,630 tests were carried out, pushing the total number beyond 48 million.

New infections have declined in recent weeks, reaching a low for the year of 1,229 on Monday.

Infections during the pandemic peaked on February 3, when 3,977 cases were reported.

Mass testing and a widespread vaccination campaign remain key to the UAE's efforts to control the spread of Covid-19.

More than 11.8 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been administered nationwide since December.
