The Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine will soon be available at three more health centres in Dubai.

Private healthcare provider Mediclinic said members of the public will be able to receive the vaccine at its Ibn Battuta, Deira and Me'aisem clinics.

Despite the announcement on Wednesday, the first available appointments were on February 24, reception staff at the centres told The National.

Appointments are required and can be booked by calling 800 1999.

The Sinopharm vaccine, developed in China, was launched in the UAE on December 9.

It is one of three vaccines approved for use. The Pfizer BioNTech offering is available only in Dubai, while Russia's Sputnik V was registered for emergency use last week.

Close to 2.7 million doses of vaccine have been given to the public to date.

Authorities aim to immunise half the population by the end of March

How do I get the Sinopharm vaccine at Mediclinic?

On arrival at one of the three centres after making an appointment, residents will be asked to display their Emirates ID at the front desk.

They will be called to see a clinician, who will check blood pressure, temperature and vital signs as part of a health assessment.

The vaccine is not suitable for all patients, including some with certain health conditions.

Those who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding will not be allowed to receive the vaccination.

Anyone who has participated in Covid-19 vaccination trials or has had the virus in the past three months should also not be inoculated.

Once the health assessment is complete, and if person is found to be eligible, the vaccine will be administered.

Who can get the Sinopharm vaccine in Dubai?

The vaccine is available to anyone over the age of 16.

Unlike the Pfizer BionTech vaccine, which is being distributed on a priority basis with vulnerable people and essential workers targeted first, the Sinopharm shot is widely available.

The vaccine is delivered free of charge and is administered in two doses given three to four weeks apart. Patients will be notified with an appointment for the follow-up vaccine.

Where else is the Sinopharm vaccine available in Dubai?
