Coronavirus: Dh45 million raised to support Abu Dhabi government in Covid-19 fight
At least 42 contributions, including hotel rooms and residential buildings, have been made
More than Dh45 million was raised in the first 24 hours of the launch of a programme that aims to help the Abu Dhabi Government battle Covid-19.
Hundreds of companies, businesspeople and members of the public have offered money, medical aid, meals and even the use of hospitals to the ‘Together We Are Good’ initiative, organised by the Authority of Social Contribution, or Maan.
Maan said in the first day, at least 42 contributions, including hotel rooms and residential buildings, were made. Almost 200 volunteers, including specialist and skilled workers, called to offer their services and the hotline received 310 calls from people asking how they could help.
Among the first to contribute was Humaid Al Neyadi and Mohammed Al Kitbi, who donated Dh2 million in medical equipment and offered the use of a hospital with more than 30 clinics.
The Al Masaood Group stepped forward with an “in-kind contribution of 400 hotel rooms,” while Ali Al Zaabi, head of Lakhraim Business Group, also offered an undisclosed number of rooms for use by authorities.
Other businesses have pledged money, including Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, which contributed Dh25m, and Mohammed Rasool Khoory & Sons, which offered Dh3 million.
In addition, there have been a number of contributions from anonymous donors, ranging from Dh500,000 to Dh12m.
“It is incredible to see so many people and businesses unite together and show their support,” said Salama Al Ameemi, director general of Maan.
“In just 24 hours, the contributions we have received ... speak volumes for the generosity of our community.
“I encourage everyone who wishes to contribute to get in contact. By taking small steps, we can all help make a big difference.”
People wishing to contribute can send text messages to 6670 (Dh1,000), 6678 (Dh500), 6683 (Dh100) and 6658 (Dh50).
