Sixty-six businesses in Kalba, in the emirate of Sharjah, have been issued temporarily closure orders this year after failing health inspections.
Al Ittihad, the sister newspaper of The National, reported that Kalba Municipality carried out 4,137 inspections in the first six months of the year.
The checks also resulted in 105 fines and 688 warnings to businesses, said Mohammed Al Jassmi, director of health and environmental affairs at the municipality.
The offences mainly related to health and safety, he said.
