ABU DHABI // A training workshop for religious leaders aimed at raising awareness of HIV and Aids has been organised for the end of this month. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in co-operation with Health Authority - Abu Dhabi (HAAD), has arranged the workshop for about 50 religious leaders, male and female. It will take place at the Hilton International Abu Dhabi hotel on Jan 31 and is the third in a series of workshops organised by UNDP and HAAD to look at the issue of HIV/Aids and its social implications.

In November, talks were held involving representatives of the UN, health authorities, the UAE Red Crescent Society, doctors and journalists on the possibility of forming an HIV/Aids association in this country. The association would handle issues related to people living with HIV and those who are likely to acquire the virus. The association would discuss ideas on what could be done to help people infected with HIV, treatment methods and raising awareness.
