ABU DHABI // The role of the country’s youth in the coming elections is crucial in helping to drive the UAE’s growth, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs said.

“The UAE youth form a key pillar of the Government’s development strategy,” said Dr Anwar Gargash, who is also the Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs and chairman of the National Election Committee.

“The governmental organisations are keen to involve them in joint works, having realised the important role that youth play in formulating and implementing plans.

“Their participation in the Federal National Council elections is, therefore, crucial, as it provides them with the platform to express their hopes and aspirations.”

Dr Gargash was addressing alumni and participants of the UAE Government Leaders Programme on Thursday about the FNC elections.

He praised the efforts of the Government to provide the right opportunities for youth by strengthening their abilities and instilling confidence in them that they were helping to build a bright future.

Dr Gargash urged young Emiratis to participate in October’s FNC elections.

He said the National Election Committee was committed to communicating with them, listening to their views and suggestions, as well as educating them on the importance of taking part in the balloting process.

“Through the electoral process, we aim to achieve maximum participation to promote the empowerment of our citizens, in contributing to shaping their future and their children’s future,” said Dr Gargash.

“The participation of the youth in the election is a very significant tool in strengthening political participation.”
