More than 130 facilities have been penalised by Umm Al Quwain Civil Defence for breaking safety regulations so far this year.

Of the 133 facilities, 17 were fined and 116 were issued warnings, said Lt Col Hassan Ali bin Sarm, head of the UAQ Civil Defence, noting that 3,460 establishments were found to conform to fire safety regulations.

Lt Col Hassan said the inspection visits conducted by the Civil Protection Section found that infractions included improper storage, failure to maintain electric conductors, failure to mount fire extinguishers on walls, water leaks in wet and dry pipe systems and absence of illuminated fire exit signs.

He added that the offending facilities were told to correct the deficiencies and observe fire prevention rules.

Labour dispute

The insured employee may still file an ILOE claim even if a labour dispute is ongoing post termination, but the insurer may suspend or reject payment, until the courts resolve the dispute, especially if the reason for termination is contested. The outcome of the labour court proceedings can directly affect eligibility.
