ABU DHABI // Self-sacrifice to advocate education for others shows the finest human values, Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development, said while meeting Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani Nobel Peace Laureate and advocate for girls' education.
Sheikha Lubna said education was a guarantor for the development and advancement of nations. She Lubna met Malala, 18, in the presence of Reem Al Hashemy, Minister of State and Chairwoman of Dubai Cares.
Sheikha Lubna, who is also head of the UAE Committee for Coordination of Foreign Humanitarian Aid, described the UAE as Malala’s second country and commended her “steadfastness in defending girls’ education”, reported the state news agency, Wam. Malala thanked the UAE for supporting her cause to empower women through education in developing communities.
Sheikha Lubna said the UAE’s leaders spare no effort to support education worldwide, particularly for women and girls.
Malala was in the UAE last week for a private screening of the documentary about her, He Named Me Malala, co-produced by Abu Dhabi's Image Nation.
