The UAE’s Mother of the Nation, Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, said the country will continue to work to empower women across the world.

Sheikha Fatima, also chairwoman of the General Women's Union and president of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, spoke of women’s rights before the 20th anniversary of an important UN resolution that was adopted to protect women and safeguard their interests.

The Security Council adopted the resolution on women, peace and security on October 31, 2000.

"We laud the efforts of UN Women to empower women, and [for] its valuable contributions to social development,” said Sheikha Fatima.

“In the UAE, we reiterate our commitment to support its programmes and initiatives to build a better future for women in the UAE and the entire world."

She said the UAE is keen to form global partnerships and respect international frameworks that support gender equality.

Sheikha Fatima also said the women in the UAE have the unwavering support of the leaders, who give them a strong platform to excel in all areas.
