Twelve planes are carrying 400 tonnes of food supplies for the holy month to Yemen’s Socotra Island as part of an initiative from the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.
The move to help Yemenis on the island was in response to directives issued by President Sheikh Khalifa, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
It is being followed up by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Khalifa Foundation.
“The first three aid planes of the air bridge include 100 tonnes of Ramadan food supplies to help underprivileged families, especially during the holy month of Ramadan,” said a Khalifa Foundation official quoted by Wam, the state news agency.
Officials on Socotra thanked the foundation for providing the assistance, Wam said.
