A UAE-funded campaign for Syrian refugees in Lebanon is expected to provide more than 150,000 people with winter aid.

The campaign is being supervised by the UAE Embassy in Beirut’s Humanitarian Development Attache Office and coincides with the declaration of 2017 as the Year of Giving.

Winter aid will be distributed at 35 centres across Lebanon, starting in the southern city of Sidon on Thursday, reported Wam, the state news agency.

Donors to the campaign include the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, the Mohammed bin Rashid Charity and Humanitarian Establishment, Emirates Red Crescent, Rahmah Charity and Etihad Airways.

Al Moasat Social Relief and Welfare Association, as well as the Relief and Humanitarian Aid Organisation of Lebanon’s Dar Al Fatwa, will deliver the aid to beneficiaries.

“The campaign is in tune with the UAE’s policy of extending a helping hand wherever help is needed,” said Mohammed Al Mehrezi, administrative officer at the Humanitarian and Development Attache Office.

“What is important to us is that aid should reach the most underprivileged displaced Syrians in Lebanon. We take a keen interest in providing basic needs during the current harsh weather conditions.”
