ABU DHABI // Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development, has praised the President, Sheikh Khalifa, for his decision to declare November 30 as Martyrs’ Day.
On Thursday it was announced that the day would be a public holiday to honour Emiratis who have died in the line of duty.
She said the day would honour those who had “sacrificed their lives to safeguard the destiny of our homeland against the forces of oppression and aggression, and to protect its children and people”, reported the state news agency, Wam.
Sheikha Lubna said the day would “reflect the values of justice and truth cherished by the UAE”.
“This tribute is customary in the UAE, where wise leadership honours those who sacrificed and persevered in all areas of the nation-building,” she added.
Sheikha Lubna said that she had comforted the families of those who had sacrificed their lives while defending the nation.
Emiratis who have died performing their civil, military and humanitarian duty at home and abroad will be honoured and events will be organised for residents to celebrate the UAE’s values of dedication, devotion, loyalty and belonging.
