DUBAI // A council was formed to work on a “soft power strategy” for the UAE in science, culture, technology, the economy and humanitarian work.
The UAE Soft Power Council was launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, on Saturday. It will report directly to the Cabinet.
The council will introduce a strategy for the Government and companies to convey the nation’s history “in a new way”, reported Wam, the state news agency. It will also review legislation and policies affecting the country’s status and reputation.
Mohammed Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future, will be chairman of the council.
Sheikh Mohammed said it is time to develop the country’s power beyond military and economic strength, and promote public diplomacy.
“The UAE holds a special place in the hearts of millions of people around the world. We want to build on that and elevate it,” he said.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, praised the move.
He described the council as “profound vision for capitalising on our achievements while reaching out to the nations of the world”.
“We are all ambassadors for the UAE, and we must double our efforts to maintain the image of our country and to promote our unique approach, values and aspirations,” he said.
