Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, has approved a Dh1.5 million prize fund for the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for World Peace.

The award (Maap) is now the most valuable worldwide, and reflects the vision of Sheikh Mohammed that nothing is more precious than peace, said Hamad Al Shaibani, director general of the Islamic Affairs Department and Charitable Activities in Dubai.

The Dubai International Peace Convention (DIPC) 2014 will organise the award in April. The winner has not yet been announced and Mr Al Shaibani suggested there might be a gap between the DIPC and the award ceremony.

Mr Al Shaibani said the award aims to promote a message of peace, moderation, coexistence and dialogue. He did not reveal the nominees, but said the winner could be a person or an organisation or more than one person or organisation.

The public can vote for the nominees, Mr Al Shaibani said.
