ABU DHABI // Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, received the president of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani, at Mushrif Palace on Tuesday.

An official reception ceremony was held in the courtyard, where Sheikh Mohammed and Mr Ghani stood on a raised platform while the UAE and Afghan national anthems were played. A 21-gun salute was also fired in honour of the guest.

After the ceremony, Sheikh Mohammed expressed the hope that the visit would contribute towards further enhancement of ties of friendship and cooperation between the UAE and Afghanistan.

During a meeting, the two men discussed the best ways to boost ties in economic, developmental and social fields.

The Afghan president updated Sheikh Mohammed on efforts being made by his government to achieve development and build national institutions, and on future development plans. He also spoke about the role of the international community in assisting and supporting Afghanistan’s efforts to bring about security and political and economic stability.

Sheikh Mohammed wished the Afghan president success in his efforts to lead Afghanistan out of its historic crisis and open a new chapter of stability and prosperity.
