Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, met the president of Angola on Sunday.
The Crown Prince “expressed his delight at the visit and hoped that it would contribute towards enhancing friendship and cooperation between the UAE and Angola, and open doors for these relations to serve the interests of both countries”, the state news agency Wam reported.
The talks between Sheikh Mohammed and Jose Eduardo dos Santos followed an official welcome ceremony held at Al Mushrif Palace.
As part of the welcome, Sheikh Mohammed and Mr dos Santos stood on the podium of honour while the national anthems of the UAE and Angola were played. There was also a 21-gun salute.
The meeting focused on economic, developmental and social matters, as well as on cooperation to meet the aspirations of the leaders and peoples of the two countries.
Sheikh Mohammed emphasised that the UAE, under the leadership of President Sheikh Khalifa, was keen on having good relations with African countries. He commended the terrific relations between the UAE and Angola.
Mr dos Santos briefed Sheikh Mohammed on his government’s efforts to boost development in education, health care, infrastructure and counterterrorism. He also expressed his country’s desire to promote cooperation with the UAE in all economic and investment spheres.
