Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid visited the final day of the International Defence Exhibition and Conference on Thursday.

The Vice President and Ruler of Dubai also toured the Navel Defence and Maritime Security Exhibition.

He stopped by at different pavilions, speaking to exhibitors and learning about the latest in defence technologies.

More than 60 countries and 900 companies participated in the event, which is the largest of its kind in the Middle East.

"The success of the event is a success for the Emirates," Sheikh Mohammed said. "Our national defence industry has made its mark in this global field."

More than Dh20.95 billion in deals were signed over the five-day international event, exceeding the amount in the 2019 exhibition, when deals worth Dh20.56bn were signed.

The total value of deals reached at the five day event is "very good" given the current global economic climate amid the pandemic and in comparison to the last Idex event, said Brig Gen Mohammed Al Hassani, spokesman for Idex and Navdex. "This is an indication of success of this exhibition."

More than 62,000 people visited the biennial exhibition.

"Such numbers demonstrate how exhibitors focus on specialised international events. It is a source of deep pride that we have been able to welcome the world, once again,” said Humaid Al Dhaheri, managing director of Adnec.
