Emirates Red Crescent sent 60 tonnes of food aid for the residents of Hadramawt governorate in Yemen.

Food parcels will be given to the residents before the start of the holy month.

“The ERC has launched a range of relief operations aimed at meeting the needs of those affected by the current economic situation, to help them overcome the current crisis and highlight the UAE’s key role,” Dr Mohammed Al Falahi, secretary general of Emirates Red Crescent, said.

The Ramadan campaign is part of the Emirates’ humanitarian projects to support families in the governorate.

Since 2011, Yemen has been a top recipient of UAE assistance. Between 2015 and 2018, the Emirates donated $2.78 billion in aid and reconstruction support to Yemen.

Of the total funds the UAE has donated since 2015, $1.74bn was allocated to food aid, $646 million to health care and $151.1m to education.

Money was also dedicated to energy generation, social services and government programmes in Yemen.
