Over 3 tonnes of chewing tobacco confiscated in Abu Dhabi raid

ABU DHABI // More than three tonnes of illegal chewing tobacco has been confiscated after a raid on a factory in Musaffah.
The raid, which was carried out by Abu Dhabi Municipality, police and prosecutors office, found the niswar tobacco was being processed on an industrial plot in several inlicensed processing plants.
"Niswar poses a significant threat to the health of community members and causes adverse impacts to humans. Administering it is illegal and in breach of the Federal Law No 15/2009 regarding the combating of tobacco," said Khalifa Al Rumaithi, the municipality's director of public health.
Niswar causes many diseases, including oral cancer, gingivitis, gum ulcerations, high blood pressure, heart diseases and peptic ulcers
"The raid illustrates the keenness of the Abu Dhabi City Municipality to provide superior living standards and a sustainable environment for Abu Dhabi city residents," said Mr Al Rumaithi.
