Hundreds of containers of fake motor oil worth Dh20 million have been seized in Ajman after authoritries shut down an unauthorised factory that was used as a storage site.
The raid was organised by the emirate's Department of Economic Development.
Inspectors confiscated 100,000 engine oil containers during routine inspections.
“Field inspectors found the factory in Ajman’s industrial area, falsely labelling the oil under international trademarks,” said Abdulla Alhemrani, assistant director general for economic registration and control affairs.
“We spare no effort in protecting consumers and combating commercial fraud.
“Our inspection campaigns are carried out regularly to curb such practices that harm the interests of investors and trademarks owners while posing risk to consumers.”
The department has carried out thousands of inspections across the emirate since March.
Consumers can file complaints on the direct line of Ajman Government Contact Centre, on 80070.

Libya's Gold
UN Panel of Experts found regime secretly sold a fifth of the country's gold reserves.
The panel’s 2017 report followed a trail to West Africa where large sums of cash and gold were hidden by Abdullah Al Senussi, Qaddafi’s former intelligence chief, in 2011.
Cases filled with cash that was said to amount to $560m in 100 dollar notes, that was kept by a group of Libyans in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
A second stash was said to have been held in Accra, Ghana, inside boxes at the local offices of an international human rights organisation based in France.
