The importance of National Service and its value to the country was emphasised by the Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah, who said the act was an honour for all loyal Emiratis.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi said the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces reflected their loyalty and sense of commitment to their homeland and its wise leadership, because their sacrifices ensured security and stability.

He spoke at a meeting with sheikhs and tribesmen at a hospitality majlis in Khuzam Palace.

“I feel proud to perform national duty along with my brothers, whom I feel honoured to join in the battlefield in Yemen,” the serviceman and example to fellow Emiratis said.

The Crown Prince praised the vision of Sheikh Khalifa, the President, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

“Today, thanks to our wise leadership, the UAE youth servicemen are able to shoulder the responsibility of defending the homeland and its gains in a perfect way.”

This week, it was announced that Emirati men between 30 and 40 years old will soon be able to volunteer for military National Service.

National Service and Reserve Authority (NSRA) recruitment centres will accept older applicants from Sunday. Currently, it is mandatory for men aged between 18 and 30 years of age to serve 12 months of National Service.

Women in that age group can also volunteer.

Provision has been made by the NSRA for National Service volunteers, and for men and women who have an Emirati mother and a foreign father.

Women volunteers must have their parents’ consent.

The Crown Prince is deemed a role model after completing National Service as part of the Saudi-led Arab coalition in Yemen.
