The Ministry of Interior has called for intensifying awareness campaigns for fire prevention and safety measures.
The Ministry of Interior Council members said the public should be made aware of the services of the civil defence to protect the public, including children and domestic workers.
Maj Nasser Al Afari said that negligence, gas leaks, flammable products and electrical shortages are the main causes behind fires.
He urged the owners of commercial buildings and facilities to adhere to the general safety standards and regulations, which are set by the ministry and civil defence.
The ministry also said that parents should keep an eye on their children and make sure they stay away from dangerous places, adding that all residences should be routinely inspected and equipped with fire alarm systems.
