ABU DHABI // The countdown began on Saturday to the UAE’s annual salute to the memories of those who have given their lives for their country.

The_UAE_Remembers campaign, organised by the Martyrs’ Families’ Affairs Office at the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court, will continue until Commemoration Day on November 30.

Commemoration Day allows everyone, Emirati and expatriate alike, to express their pride in the sacrifices made by the heroes of the UAE, said Sheikh Khalifa bin Tahnoun, Director of the office.

It is also an opportunity for the nation’s diverse communities to show their support and stand with the leadership in its efforts to provide a safe, secure and tolerant environment for all, Sheikh Khalifa said.

The campaign aims to uphold four key causes: nurturing pride in the country’s heroes, immortalising the memory of those who gave their lives for the nation, gratitude for the cohesion and unity that characterise the UAE and celebrating an occasion dedicated to showing respect through remembrance.

“The Martyrs’ Families’ Affairs Office at the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court will work with all relevant authorities to ensure we reach out across the nation and enable everyone – citizens, residents, government and businesses – to participate and show their respect,” Sheikh Khalifa said.

“This is our way of showing our gratitude for the sacrifices made by our countrymen, as well as giving our full support to their families, in line with the values of unity and solidarity ingrained in UAE society.”

Events will be held in schools and universities, along with other social functions, allowing all to pay their respects.

#The_UAE_Remembers campaign will culminate in the symbolic lowering of the national flag across the country at 8am on Commemoration Day. It will be followed by a minute’s silence in every emirate at 11.30am and the raising of the UAE flag at 11.31am.
