FNC to discuss hospital cleanliness, shisha cafes

ABU DHABI // Hospital cleanliness and shisha cafes are among the topics scheduled for discussion at the Federal National Council on Monday.

Aisha Al Yammahi (Fujairah) will question Abdulrahman Al Owais, the Minister of Health, on hygiene procedures at hospitals.

“I want to ask about the sterilisation mechanisms in all hospital facilities and in all emirates – the rooms, surgical tools and intensive care units – as a way of knowing the procedures and to find preventive measures if needed,” she said.

Marwan bin Ghalitha (Dubai) will question Mr Al Owais about regulations governing shisha smoking in cafes.

“There are many transgressions in shisha places and their flagrant disregard of the law,” he said. “The shisha cafes can’t be around homes, schools and mosques.

“My question to the minister this week is why are shisha places disregarding the law this way and why isn’t the law applicable to them?”

He said the public was aware of the negative effects of smoking shisha, however, there must be strict rules to prevent issues from arising.

“The importance of the question is that it is a regulatory question,” he said. “Everyone knows the harmful effects of shisha. If one wants to smoke then they need to do it out of the proximity to public places, and the established rules and regulations need to be applicable.”

Members will also discuss the sponsorship of Barcelona Football Club by Etisalat and new bonuses for notaries public in the judicial department.
