Dubai authorities tackle 1,500 cases of forgery

The General Administration for Forensic Evidence and Science in Dubai dealt with 1,493 cases last year.

DUBAI // The General Administration for Forensic Evidence and Science in Dubai dealt with 1,493 cases in 2014, according to Aaqeel Ahmad Al Najjar, head of documents control.

The team dealt with 305 forged passports, 169 cases of counterfeit money, 592 cases of forged writing, 276 cases of counterfeit goods, 5 forged driver licences, 117 financial fraud cases, 25 fake credit cards, and others.

He added that 1,406 cases were closed last year and 87 are still under examination.

Mr Al Najjar stressed that passport forgery cases have recently increased and often feature “partial” forgery such as change in the personal data of the passport holder, like the date of birth or occupation.

He said that modern technology is making it easier to counterfeit documents and money, leading to banks and exchange agencies falling pray to forgers.
