ABU DHABI // More than Dh160 million worth of infrastructure works have been approved by the executive committee of Abu Dhabi Executive Council.

The first project approved consists of building more than 14 kilometres of internal roads in Sector 18 of Madinat Zayed and Baynoonah in the Western Region at the cost of Dh109 million, including water, electricity and communication networks, sewerage and irrigation systems, rainwater drainage, pedestrian crossings and street lighting. These will serve 285 residential plots, 231 of which are located in Sector 18 of Madinat Zayed and 54 in Baynoonah.

The second project consists of building internal roads to link Ain Al Fayda and Jebel Hafeet to existing main roads. It includes building road junctions and lighting poles, sidewalks and a rainwater drainage network to serve 5,000 units in Ain Al Fayda and Jebel Hafeet in Al Ain City, at a total cost of Dh29 million.

The committee also approved the first phase of a project to build a water distribution network in ICAD 5 at the cost of Dh22.5 million. The first phase will see the construction of 16-kilometre long water pipes to deliver up to 700,000 gallons of drinking water. That number is expected to increase to 5.1 million upon completion of the second phase, reported Aletihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National.

The projects are part of the Abu Dhabi Plan that aims to meet the needs of the emirate’s urban and economic expansion.
