FUJAIRAH // More than 130 members of federal, local and private organisations launched a fifth annual, two-day cultural "convoy" on Friday.
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, inaugurated the event in Qidfa, Fujairah, which was attended by local leaders, artists and writers, dignitaries and government representatives.
The convoy included tents for government bodies such as the Emirates Identity Authority, while the Emirates Red Crescent offered medical tests and displayed initiatives. Other tents offered children's games and a heritage village.
The event also featured an open theatre for art shows, traditional and theatrical performances, and competitions.
Sheikh Nahyan said the event showcased the UAE's history for the benefit of young Emiratis.
He praised the cooperation of the organisations involved in providing services to Emiratis living in remote areas.
The cultural convoys aim to provide services and access to the arts to such residents and to enhance communal interaction, according to the ministry.
The events and activities started three weeks ahead of the event's opening at schools and in public areas, said Afra Al Sabri, the chairwoman of the cultural convoys committee.
