Dubai is "fully prepared" for the challenges ahead and has enough food reserves to serve the needs of the community, said Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai.
Sheikh Hamdan, also chairman of Dubai Executive Council, led a video conference of the body on Monday.
Council members reviewed the Dubai Food Security Committee's operational plans and discussed ways of increasing food stocks in the emirate.
They included trade and distribution, diversifying import sources, supporting local food production and reducing waste.
Sheikh Hamdan said it was imperative that the emirate's food needs continued to be met while ensuring reasonable prices.
"Despite the global challenges created by the outbreak of Covid-19, we are fully prepared and have sufficient strategic food reserves to serve the needs of the community," he said.
"The needs of Dubai’s citizens and residents are our top priority and our specialised teams are working around the clock to manage the consequences of this crisis.
"Our aim is to reinforce our capabilities in facing crises. We call on all government entities to unite to ensure the provision of commodity supplies at reasonable prices for all."
Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and members of the council attended the meeting remotely.
