More than 12,000 volunteers have distributed 500,000 free meals in densely populated areas in old Dubai.
To date, 12,230 volunteers from 40 nationalities, aged 18 to 53 years, have become a part of the ‘Your City Needs You’ campaign, which helps support the most vulnerable people amid the Covid-19 outbreak.
The initiative is a part of the ‘Day for Dubai’ app that was launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai in March.
The campaign covered districts in Dubai such as Al Ras, Naif, Al Raffa, Al Karama, Al Mankhool, Al Satwa and Oud Metha.
The campaign was conducted in collaboration with Dubai’s Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, which recently launched the Community Solidarity Fund Against Covid-19.
Individuals and organisations can contribute to the fund to help support residents who have been affected by the coronavirus outbreak.
Yesterday, the country announced the launch of a campaign to provide 10 million meals to those in need.
The country's biggest community campaign will help provide meals or food parcels to support people and families during Ramadan.
It will also help unemployed people or those who have had salary cuts because of the coronavirus outbreak.
