DUBAI // Governments in the region need to work together to bring security to the labour market, the country’s labour minister has said.

Saqr Ghobash told delegates at the Arab Labour Conference in Cairo, that addressing the demands of youth employment should be a priority, reported Wam, the state news agency.

“This conference comes amid huge challenges being experienced by the Arab labour market,” he said. Changes in the region he aded, demanded that “obligations be dealt with on the basis of solidarity and shared responsibility”. He said this was particularly important when it came to young people.

Mr Ghobash said sound strategic planning needed political stability to achieve social justice, a key for addressing challenges such as unemployment among young people.

He referred to the achievements of Egypt, notably the Suez Canal development project, following the election of president Abdel Fatah Al Sisi. Mr Ghobash said the project would provide many job opportunities for Egyptians.

He also praised the efforts of Palestinian businessmen, who persist despite economic challenges from Israel.

There are 22 Arab and international bodies attending the event.
