ABU DHABI // Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and the king of Bahrain performed Friday prayers and absentee prayers for fallen servicemen together yesterday.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa were at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi as absentee funeral prayers were offered across the country and among those in the refugee camp in Jordan operated by the UAE.

There were 45 Emirati servicemen killed in Yemen last Friday in a dawn rocket attack. Five Bahraini servicemen were also killed.

Alongside Sheikh Mohammed and King Hamad were Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed, National Security Adviser and Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, Lt Gen Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed, Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court, as well as many other dignitaries, state news agency Wam reported.

The Friday prayer sermon was delivered by Sheikh Khalifa Al Dhaheri, who said that the Emirati heroes gave their lives in defence and support of the Yemeni people. “The UAE people are all one family, which is proud of its leadership and its martyrs, who sacrificed their lives to be rewarded with paradise,” he said.
