Gang arrested over two road-side thefts

The Asians allegedly used deceptive tactics to lure drivers away from their cars in two incidents before stealing amounts totalling more than Dh100,000 from inside the vehicles.

AJMAN // Eight men have been arrested for stealing a bag containing Dh100,000 and US$10,000, and a woman’s handbag containing Dh4,000.

The Asian gang were arrested after police received two reports, from a man and a woman, said Col Abdullah Al Matrooshi, director of Ajman CID.

According to Col Al Matrooshi, the man said that a stranger told him his car’s tyre was flat, and when he got out to check another stranger stole his bag with the Dh100,000 and $10,000.

The woman’s story was the same, except the stranger who approached her said she had an oil leak, the director said.

Police identified one of the thieves and raided his home in Ajman.

“When they were arrested they resisted fiercely but we could control all of the defendants,” Col Al Matrooshi said.

He said the gang members were sent to prosecutors after they confessed.
