Friday sermon: Prepare for the afterlife with good deeds

Muslims should prepare for the afterlife by doing good deeds, says this week’s sermon.

Allah sees these deeds so Muslims should remember they will be presented in front of Him one day.

“O you who have believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow – and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is acquainted with what you do,” says the sermon.

“When humans are created they go through the good and the bad in life, they enjoy the delights and suffer from the discomfort. This life will soon end,” continues the sermon before quoting a verse of the Quran: “And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion?”

Life may deceive people into thinking it is eternal, but nothing lasts forever, says the sermon.

“Everyone upon the earth will perish, and there will remain the face of your lord, owner of majesty and honour.”

Only those who have realised the truth and do what Allah has asked can prepare to take the path to the afterlife.

“The angels, one on your right and the other on your left, witness your actions and write them down. The right saves your good deeds, and the left your sins. Do as you please, less or more, and your book will go with you to the grave until it is presented in front of Allah.”

This book, the sermon says, is the upmost witness to one’s deeds in life, and it is this book that will save humans from the misery of the afterlife.

“So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it. And whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.”
