This week’s Friday sermon urges drivers to abide by traffic rules and regulations because it is their Islamic duty to do so.

Abiding by traffic laws ensures the safety of everyone on the road. It is strictly prohibited in Islam to endanger or kill others.

Allah says: “If anyone killed a person not in retaliation of murder, or to spread mischief in the land – it would be as if he killed all mankind.”

It is incumbent upon Muslims to adhere to traffic laws and avoid reckless driving, such as speeding and texting while at the wheel. Those laws and regulations were introduced to protect human lives.

Suicide and the killing of innocent people is strictly prohibited in Islam.

Allah says in the Quran: “And do not kill yourselves [nor kill one another]. Surely, Allah is Most Merciful to you.”

Reckless driving is blamed for the destruction of property, loss of money, disabling injuries and fatalities.

Allah strictly prohibits this in the Quran: “And do not throw yourselves into destruction.”

Believing in fate or destiny means taking the necessary precautions before the reliance on Allah and obeying the laws and regulations in place. Further, such offences may result in civil, penal or criminal indictments on Earth and in the afterlife. Allah says: “Every soul will be [held] in pledge for its deeds.”

Abiding by these laws and regulations is paramount to fulfil Islam’s principles and duties.
