ABU DHABI // Friday’s sermon focuses on moderation in all aspects of life.

It states that the Islamic tradition is based upon that concept and that true and sincere Muslims are moderates and not extremists.

The sermon urges people to strive to seek the middle path in everything. Islam opposes all forms of extremism and is governed by a balanced system.

The Quran refers to those who truly follow Islam as “the community of the middle path”.

The Prophet enjoyed moderation and steered his followers away from harshness and extremism. He said “adopt the path of moderation”, repeating the sentence three times to stress his point clearly, after which he added: “He who adopts the path of extremism will be subdued.”

The Prophet also said: “Adopt the path of moderation [and] you will reach your destination.”

The sermon also emphasises the importance of moderation in relation to the notion of graduality. Muslims are expected to avoid all kinds of extremes in life; they should not be extravagant nor misers.

“Those who, when they spend, are not extravagant and not miserly but hold a just balance between these two extremes.” Al Furqan 25:67.

The sermon will also say that Islam is not supposed to be difficult or impossible. “Allah intends every facility for you, and does not want to put you into difficulty.” Al Baqara 2:185.
