SHARJAH // Good driving may soon be rewarded with free car insurance, a senior police official has announced.

Brigadier Ghaith al Zaabi, the director general of traffic co-ordination at the Ministry of Interior, said yesterday the Traffic General Secretariat had signed an agreement with Emirates Insurance Company as a way to encourage drivers to avoid violations and black points.

Under the plan, drivers who maintain clean driving records for five years will be rewarded with free car insurance for one year.

____________

____________

Drivers who keep a clean record for one year will receive a 20 per cent discount, and 30 and 35 per cent discounts will be awarded for the second and third year, respectively.

No reward scheme was indicated for year four, and Brig al Zaabi did not announce a starting date for the insurance initiative.

Brig al Zaabi said on a Sharjah radio show, Amman ya Beladi, which is hosted by Sharjah Police, that he hoped the reward programme would contribute to solving various traffic issues in the Emirates.
