Four power stations to be built in Al Ain

New power stations will be set up in the city to sustain the level of development and strengthen the power network in other areas.

ABU DHABI // Four new power stations have been ordered for Al Ain.

More than four projects have been approved by a committee headed by Mohammed Ahmed Al Bawardi, a board member of Abu Dhabi Executive Council (Adec) yesterday.

"The executive committee has discussed and approved infrastructure projects to develop electric power supply, water transfer and roadways that are dependable and sustainable for the Abu Dhabi growth plan," the statement from Adec said.

Four power stations will be set up in the city to sustain the level of development and strengthen the power network in other areas.

The committee has also approved an infrastructure project to build pipelines that will provide fresh water to Al Falah district on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi.

Pipelines will also be built to provide fresh water to the Car Market district, the committee announced.

The pipeline projects were initiated after requests by developers in the areas. Adjoining projects and gardens will be created in areas where the pipelines will be laid.

During the meeting, Abu Dhabi Municipality was given the responsibility of handling all repairs and maintenance of bridges, pedestrian and traffic tunnels.

"This directive was made in order to ensure quick and speedy maintenance work on emergencies to maintain the image of the city of Abu Dhabi," the statement said.

The committee also reviewed the latest developments in the Emirates Nuclear Power Plant project, in Barakah, in the Western Region. The review included milestones achieved and the latest developments with the power plant project, as well as a timeline for completion.

"The project is of strategic importance to secure a sustainable power supply to meet the growing requirements of the Emirate," the statement said.
