The Abu Dhabi Police forensic biology laboratory has been able to obtain the complete structure of two bone powder samples, the first dating back 400 years and the second 150 years. Eighteen labs took part in the research.

The tests were conducted at Charles University in collaboration with the Forensic DNA Service (FDNAS) and other international institutes of criminalistics in Prague.

Col Abdul Rahman Al Hammadi, head of the forensic evidence department, said that the samples were taken from ancient excavations provided by the National Museum as well as the Institute of Archaeology in Prague.

“The aim of the research was to test the competence of different laboratories worldwide in analysing old bone samples”, said Lt Ahmad Al Afifi, a forensic evidence expert. “Thirteen laboratories were able to reach the complete DNA structure for the first sample. However, only three of them, including the forensic biology laboratory at the ADP forensic evidence department, succeeded in obtaining the complete DNA structure for both samples.”
