ABU DHABI // Public prosecution has ordered the arrest of the Arabian Gulf League football player, AQ, over an obscene video that has spread across social media.

The former Al Nasr player, who later moved to Al Dhafra, appears undressed and making indecent gestures in the video as he insults the national team coach, Mahdi Ali, for not putting him in the UAE team.

Mr Ali did not press charges, but after the video went viral across social media, prosecutors decided to press charges against him for committing an act that breached public decency.

“This is considered a crime and breach of public morality, which is punishable up to imprisonment and fine,” prosecution said.

Prosecutors stressed that the UAE law is strict on whoever commits such acts, especially when it comes from an athletic figure whom the youth looks up to as a role model.

The 29-year-old player was suspended from Al Dhafra football club after the video came out.

Many followers also expressed their dissatisfaction with the video and how it breached ethics and morals.
