ABU DHABI // Commuters were warned to take caution on Sunday morning as heavy fog blanketed the capital.

Abu Dhabi Police advised motorists to take extra care on the roads as low visibility led to dangerous conditions.

The warning from poilce came shortly after 6am on Twitter: “Low visibility due to fog formation on different parts in #AbuDhabi and high ways. Motorists are urged to take extra caution.”

Warnings of fog were also issued by the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology, which reported fog over Abu Dhabi island and much of the Western Region including Liwa, Al Dhafra, and Al Minhad.

An increase in relative humidity during the night and morning has contributed to the foggy conditions with the centre forecasting humidity levels up to 90 per cent on the coast and 95 per cent inland.

Forecasters said the conditions were likely to persist over the next two days with the relative humidity causing fog and mist to form over the western areas.
