DUBAI // A flight attendant charged with bringing crystal meth and hashish into the country said on Wednesday that he used the illegal narcotics outside the UAE and that the drugs found were for personal use.
Prosecutors told the court that on February 19, a customs search of Brazilian J M’s luggage revealed drug paraphernalia at Dubai airport’s Terminal 3.
“I found a device that is commonly used to slice and grind drugs, with a dark substance inside it, then I found a plastic bag containing a white substance,” said customs officer S D, 24.
She turned the 30-year-old flight attendant over to a police station. Officers then searched his home in Dubai and found several types of drugs.
“He had stashed hashish, methamphetamine and several types of prescription-based drugs at his house,” an officer told Dubai Criminal Court.
On Wednesday, the defendant pleaded guilty to charges of importing drugs with the intent to consume and consumption of drugs. He reiterated that he had taken the drugs outside the UAE.
A verdict is expected on July 8.
