DUBAI // Coast guards rescued an Emirati fishing boat captain and four Indian crewmen after their vessel was flipped over in rough weather four nautical miles off the coast of Ajman.
The incident occurred while the boat was headed back to shore when it was battered by strong winds, that created high waves, causing it to turn upside down at 10pm on Friday.
The coast guard received a call from one of the crewmen who was able to able to board a ship that was passing the stricken vessel. Marine patrols rushed to the scene and made sure the Emirati and the crew were all in good health.
They suffered no injuries and were transported to Al Hamriya in Sharjah, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister paper of The National.
The boat, which was equipped with two 200 horsepower engines, suffered medium damage as a result and was found washed up near Al Zawra’ in Ajman, although some of the equipment on board was lost at sea.
