An Indian national from Kerala could not believe his luck when he won US$1 million (Dh3.6m) in the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire draw – in his first attempt.
Abdul Latheef Abubacker, 40, who owns a trading business in Dubai, said he was in “utter shock”.
“I didn’t expect to win with only one ticket I bought for the first time,” the father of two said. “This is unbelievable.”
He said he would use the money to expand his business and give some of it to charity.
Although Robert Naumann, an American professor from American University of Sharjah, did not win the $1m, he drove off with a brand new Porsche Panamera 4.
