UMM AL QUWAIN // A fire broke out in the old industrial area of Umm Al Quwain on Wednesday afternoon.

No injuries were reported as a result of the blaze, UAQ Civil Defence said.

Firefighters rushed to the scene after the fire was reported at 2.15pm. The fire started in rubbish that was behind a building materials company, said Col Hassan bin Sarm, director of UAQ Civil Defence.

“The crew evacuated the area that is close to the incident scene and put out the flames, and then it was handed over to the competent authorities,” Col bin Sarm said.

He called on manufacturers to not dispose of rubbish randomly or smoke in these areas, and to adhere to environment, health and safety regulations, particularly during the summer.
